Overview
At First Impressions Pediatric Dentistry, your kids come first. We want to have a fun and caring environment for your child so they feel comfortable and have an anxiety-free trip to the dentist! Our goal is to ensure a stress-free visit, no matter what the circumstances are, to keep your child content and with only the best associations with going to the dentist. Our office is completely kid-friendly and designed with their comfort in mind.
Dr. Carol
Dr. Carol became a pediatric dentist because she always had positive experiences at the dentist, and she would like to make that a part of your child's memory as well. Patients and parents alike appreciate her warm, upbeat personality and calm demeanor… especially with the most anxious of patients! A mom herself, Dr. Carol will care for your precious little ones as she does her own.
I honestly believe I have the best career ever! What I do goes beyond a career for me, it's actually my ministry. Even on days that aren't particularly how I've planned them, I still smile because I am so blessed to be doing what I love. Every child comes in a different package, with different likes and dislikes, and there's honestly never a dull moment because with kids you never know what you're going to get!
My patients truly make my day. I especially enjoy getting to assist a child who is fearful about what a dental experience might entail and guide them and their expectations to become more relaxed, even excited to visit us in the future.
Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, my family's southern roots attracted me to Nashville after completing undergrad at The Ohio State University. I earned my Doctorate of Dental Surgery at Meharry Medical College in Nashville. During my pediatric residency at Case Western Reserve University, I obtained profound experience in treating both well and special needs patients. As a board-certified pediatric dentist, I am proficient in contemporary restorative and surgical methods, including laser dentistry.
A confessed nerd, I have always had a love for learning. I make time to read, attend professional conferences, and listen to podcasts and webinars as ways to stay ahead of all of the advances in dentistry. I am also a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and am a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
My family is my reason for being! I am married to my loving and supportive husband, James, and we have a teenage son, Emory. My mom, who goes by Grammy, lives with us. We also have a fur baby, Barkley, who is an energetic dachshund/Chihuahua mix that has earned his name. If you see them around the office, be sure to say hi! We are proud to call Nolensville home, so don't be shy if you see us out around town.
A self-professed foodie, I love to cook, enjoy restaurants, visit farmers markets, and watch Food Network. “Chopped” is one of my favorite shows! I love to spend time with my family, enjoy the outdoors, and go to sporting events or enjoy concerts. We also make time as a family and with the team to participate in church and community service projects.
Dr. Missy
Dr. Melissa D. Porter was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. As a child, she knew that she wanted to provide care for children when she grew up. Dr. Porter graduated Summa Cum Laude from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University. She continued her training at Meharry Medical College where she completed her Master's in Health Science, Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and General Practice Residency Program certification.
Dr. Porter's determination to further her education and accomplish a lifelong dream of becoming a Pediatric Dentist did not cease. She recently completed the Meharry Medical College Pediatric Dentistry Residency program in its inaugural class serving under the leadership of Dr. Carol Nixon-Wesby.
When she is not attempting to save one tooth at a time, Dr. Porter enjoys spending quality time with her son, Jayden, dogs, Zero and Skor, family and close friends. She loves volunteering locally and globally— at community events and on international mission trips, exploring new restaurants, reading "physical" books, caring for her many plant babies and "hunting for unique finds" (shopping).
